Perspectives on Diversity and Culture

My friend from undergrad gave me her definition of culture as characteristic of her childhood that made her into the person she is today. Diversity she stated was the different people in the society and understanding we all are different.
My husband’s definition of culture is the background of a person’s family and diversity is the different kind of people and races of the world.
My co-workers definition of culture is the ethnicity and beliefs of people’s families. Diversity is the different types of people and understanding that no one is alike.
The aspects of culture and diversity that I have studied in this course are included in the answers I received by understanding that people are different and culture relates to people everyday lives. Culture does not consist of just race or ethnicity but how people celebrate holidays, religion, economics, and political parties. Some aspects that have been omitted is the broadness of culture. There are no limitations on how to define culture and things that people doing with their everyday lives are aspects of culture and diversity. Ways in which thinking about other people’s definitions of culture and diversity influenced my thinking about these topics are understanding the importance of peoples point of view and perspectives. Knowing that people do not see things the same way I do and everyone has their own thinking process.

My Family Culture

If I had to move to a different country that was totally different from the United States and I could only bring three items with me the three items would be my wedding ring, my degree, and a family photo.  I would explain to people that these three ideas are important to me because I truly love my husband and my wedding ring is a symbol of our unity, I work hard to receive my degree and I would always want to remember the faces of my love ones.
If I had to give up two out of three items I would really be heart broken. It would be hard for me to decide which item to keep. I realized that I am a young lady that loves her husband, career, and family.
